There are many benefits to GPS cell phone tracking and it may be right for you; but you should also consider the drawbacks before jumping into a decision.

In this modern age in which we live, there are plenty of ways that parents are able to keep better track of their children, to ensure that they are safe at all times.  GPS cell phone tracking is one such way, but it’s not always as great as it sounds.  While this can be the perfect way to be sure that they are safe, or that they are where the said that they would be, sometimes the system can backfire on you for a few reasons.  That’s why it’s important that you weigh the pros and cons of getting a tracking plan beforehand.

There are several things to consider when you’re planning to invest in a tracking plan, and you have to be sure that you give them all some thought.  There’s going to be some additional cost, and you can also have a problem with how the plan is managed if you’re not careful.  But under the right pretences, getting a family GPS cell phone tracking plan can be one of the best moves that you make.  First up, the positives that you’ll find with tracking of this sort:

1) Easily track where your children are at all times.

If you’re a parent that really worries where your kids go during the day, or at nighttime when they’re hanging out with friends, it’s important to have a way to corroborate their stories as to where they’ll be or where they’ve been.  With the right type of GPS cell phone tracking plan you can keep track of this exactly, so that you can always tell where they are during the day.  This way, you can prevent them cutting school, or hanging out with friends that you don’t approve of, in areas that you’d rather they not be.

2) Most major phone providers offer convenient tracking plans.

With some plans such as AT&T’s FamilyMap, you can actually track each other from your phones or online, so that you always have access to where everybody is located at any time.  This way, you can track where your children are through your phone service, or you can also use FamilyMap just to be able to find each other when you’re out on a vacation, or even in a mall.  This way, you make getting together that little bit easier, and your cell phone plan provides for that easy use.

3) Ensures that you never lose a phone.

Because your GPS tracking chip is right inside the phone, and you’ll find that you can always track where your phone is if you lose it .  This way, from one of the other phones hooked up to the plan, you have a tracking system for getting your phone back in a flash.

But of course, with these positives there are also several negatives that are a byproduct of GPS cell phone tracking.  It’s important that you’re always aware of the cons before determining if these types of phone plans are the right solution for you:

1) FamilyMap plans are not cheap.

The first thing that you’re going to find in just about any instance, is that family plans like these are not cheap.  In just about every situation these are some of the most expensive plans, and they will tack on a good $10 to $15 to what you’re paying normally, and that really adds up from month to month.  If you’re willing to pay that the plan can be worth it, but that can price it outside what many families can actually afford.

2) Some family members may feel this is a violation of privacy.

Trying to use GPS cell phone tracking on a phone without telling your children is always a bad idea, because when they eventually find out it’s going to feel like a massive invasion of privacy.  That’s why it’s important that if you feel it’s necessary to take this precaution, you contact your children first to really talk with them about the situation.  You don’t want them to feel as if you’re invading their personal space, as nobody would want that to happen to them.

3) Most plans have alert features for the phone that you track.

The problem with something like the AT&T FamilyMap, is that while it’s great for you to be able to look up and track your kids, it also sends notification to their phone.  So if you were trying to do this on the down low, it’s not going to be possible in some instances.
