Five Cheap Phone Plans to Consider

Anyone on a tight budget should look into one of the following five cheap phone plans.


When thinking about investing in a phone, it is not only the cost of the device itself that needs to be taken into consideration. The contract that a network operator offers is also a factor that must be considered in terms of the overall cost of buying a phone. The competition between the various carriers means that there can be many good deals available on the market and some of the cheap phone plans on offer include the following options.

Cricket

One of the newer phone operators around is Cricket and they are offering a few cheap phone plans to customers. As a newer operator, their coverage may not always be available in an area, although if it is they have some of the cheapest phone plans around. Their basic plan starts at around $35 per month and offers a number of unlimited features including talk time, long distance calls and texts. Plans for smart phones such as Android and Blackberry can start at around $55 per month and include many unlimited features such as talk time, picture and video messaging and also web browsing. Cricket has a number of cheap plans on offer and can therefore be a company worth considering when looking to buy a phone.

Sprint

Sprint is another company to consider for cheap phone plans. Their basic plan is available for only $30 per month and offers 200 minutes of anytime calling in addition to unlimited night and weekend calling which runs from 9:00pm to 7:00am Monday to Thursday and 9:00pm Friday to 7:00am Monday.  Sprint also has voice only plans which start at a price of around $40 and include features such as unlimited mobile to mobile calling, unlimited night and weekend calling which runs from 7.00pm to 7.00pm and 450 minutes of anytime calling. For an additional $20 the anytime minutes on a voice only plan can be increased to 900 minutes.

Verizon

Verizon Wireless is one of the largest network operators in the US and they offer a few cheap phone plans for sale. Their Individual Talk Plan offers 450 anytime minutes for a cost of $40, with the other features included in the plan comprising unlimited night and weekend minutes, unlimited calling to other Verizon Wireless phone users and no domestic long distance charges. For those whose preference is talk and text, a plan is available with 450 anytime minutes for a cost of around $60 per month.

AT&T

The AT&T Nation 450 Plan is one of the cheaper phone plans around and includes a number of features for a price of around $40 per month. The services included in the plan include 450 minutes of anytime minutes, 5,000 of weekend and night minutes, unlimited minutes of mobile to mobile calling and the benefit that unused minutes are not lost and will automatically roll over to the next month. Another advantage of the plan is that domestic long distance calling is included with no roaming charges. However, to access the plan it is necessary to be already signed up to an eligible local services account from AT&T, although for those that are the Nation 450 Plan can be a good option to choose.

T-Mobile

The T-Mobile Even More 500 Talk Plan is one of the cheap phone plans to consider in the US and this is available at a cost of around $40 per month. For this price the plan includes 500 minutes of anytime talk minutes and unlimited weeknight and weekend calling. Other features include unlimited T-Mobile to T-Mobile calling, as well as no charges for long distance calling or roaming. This makes it one of the more affordable plans to think about.

For those that are interested in a basic phone service, there are a variety of cheap phone plans available to choose from. These are offered by a few different network operators and while selecting the cheapest is obviously a major factor for most, consideration also needs to be given to the coverage in your area and which will suit you best in terms of services provided.
