Cell Phone Scanner Apps: The Must Have For a Truly Mobile Office

A cell phone scanner gives you a completely wireless office solution, enabling you to scan photos and documents with the help of a camera.

Using your phone as a scanner can be a necessity when you’re on the go, so that you can have easy digital storage of things like documents, images, and just about everything else that you could need to make a record of.  Plus you’re going to find that with the right type of mobile device, you can easily have a cell phone scanner that’s able to manufacture searchable and functional PDF or HTML files as well.  This way, you can be sure that your phone is always able to update your files and information so that you always have the right items on hand.  It’s just a matter of choosing the right type of application to get the job done for you.

You’re going to find that not all devices can become cell phone scanners however, as you’re going to find that the applications will only work on some phones.  This means that not everybody can take advantage, or it’s going to mean that you want to choose carefully when it comes to selecting the right type of phone.  But when you need a truly mobile office that means you can work from anywhere, it is an option that you’re going to want to consider so that you can be sure your phone gets the job done.

1) Choosing the right type of phone.

For starters, you’re going to have to have a smart phone in most cases, because this is pretty sophisticated software.  You’re going to find that with just a regular phone, or even with a dumb phone, you’re not going to be able to get really anything done.  But when you do have the right type of smart phone like the iPhone or an HTC that’s running Android, you can be sure that this is going to be able to work for you.

But you do also need to ensure that you have the right type of camera. You’re going to find that your cell phone scanner capabilities are always going to be limited to the type of camera that you have.  If you want to be able to make sense of those files and ensure that you can convert them in different ways, then you need at least a 5 mega pixel camera, so that it can capture all the nuances of a document or image.

2) Installing the right type of application.

For starters you need the right type of scanning app that can make sense of the image that you take, and that can also ensure that you’re able to convert a picture into a scanned computer file.  That means getting something like Qipit or ScanR.  Both are made to be digital cell phone scanners that are capable of snapping pictures and then using them as scanned cell phone items.  The reason that these programs are going to work so great for you, is that they both offer OCR or optical character recognition.  That means they are able to take a picture of a page with writing along the surface, and make sense of all the letters.

Once you have software or an app that can read and perform OCR, you’ll find that you’re able to scan just about anything and convert them to different formats. You can save your scans as text documents, or even as something like HTML and even PDF files. This way, you can save them or make changes on a normal computer, just as though they were a standard type of computer file.

3) Taking the picture properly.

However, even with your OCR app, you’re going to find that you still need to take the picture carefully.  When using a cell phone scanner, you have to ensure first off that the area is really well lit. This way, you can be sure that you’re able to pick up all the characters on the page in question.  But you also want to ensure that you have anti shaking enabled, because your hands are almost always going to tremble that slight little bit when taking a picture and that can be an issue.  You’ll also find that you want to enable text mode when scanning a document, so that you can be sure the app is ready to pick up all text information.
