Applying a Cell Phone Screen Protector In 7 Steps

In these seven simple steps, you can guard your device from potential damage with a cell phone screen protector.

Buying a cell phone screen protector film is really important, because phone screens are so very delicate these days.  With things like touch screens, or just even with standard phones, you’ll find that the technology is extremely easy for you to scratch and damage irreparably.  Once that screen is scratched, there’s really nothing you can do, which is why it’s so very important you buy the right type of protection.  With a protective film, you ensure that your outer shell is what picks up all the damage, opposed to the phone screen itself.  This way, you avoid anything major happening that would render your screen hard to see or use.

However, applying a cell phone screen protector film is not always as easy as it might sound.  In fact, they can be downright difficult if you don’t know what you’re doing, which is why you want to follow these simple steps:

1) Make sure you pick out the right design.

You’re going to find that there are all different types of cell phone screen protectors out there, and you have to find the right type for the kind of phone that you have.  That’s because phones come in all different sizes, styles and the screens are set up completely differently from model to model.  You have to find the type that’s going to line up perfectly, and that means one designed just for your phone.

2) Turn off the phone and wash the outside.

Before you can apply the cell phone screen protector film, you have to be working with a clean surface.  That means you want to turn off your phone and take the battery out, this prevents the risk of electric shock. Then you want to take a damp, but not sopping wet cloth, and wash the entire outside. This gets any dirt off, and leaves just a smooth surface like when you first got the phone.

3) From there, you want to let your phone dry totally.

Before you can apply the solution, it’s usually best to let the phone dry out, also because it’s not a good idea for you to leave water on the surface for too long.  You can typically do this just with a standard hand towel, just be sure it’s clean and don’t rub too hard or you can end up with fibers stuck to the phone’s surface.

4) Now it’s time to apply the sealing adhesive.

Every type of cell phone screen protector is going to have an adhesive of some type, so that you can connect the protector to the face of the phone. This is meant to be hugged snugly so that you can’t tell that you have a film on the phone protecting the screen at all.  That means applying a thin layer, about as evenly as you can, over the entire surface as directed.

5) Here you can put on the cell phone screen protector film itself.

Usually straight after you paint on the adhesive, you’re going to want to apply the film.  The process is usually the same whether you have an iPhone screen protector or a Verizon brand, Blackberry protector, basically anything.  Just be sure you line your edges up, because you don’t want the protector to glue to the phone at a strange angle, or it will be hard to remove, and it will be a constant annoyance until you do.

6) From there it’s as simple as letting the adhesive sit.

You have to let your adhesive and protector sit for some time.  Depending upon the kind that you have you may need to leave them out overnight for a period of around 6 to 12 hours.  But in order to make a proper bond some actually require a term of 24 hours or even 48.  That’s a long time to go without a phone, so make sure that you’re prepared beforehand.

7) Now you should be good to go.

Once the time period has elapsed, you should be able to feel the cell phone screen protector film as being totally dry and bonded to the phone, so that it feels like there’s just a standard screen there.  If it feels a little flimsy or wet, you want to let it dry a bit longer.  But don’t turn the phone on again, or replace the battery until you’re sure enough time has elapsed for your phone to be totally dry and ready for use once more.
