All You Need To Know About Cell Phone Towers Coverage and Concerns

There's a lot of uncertainty about cell phone towers and what you should know about them. We've taken some time to clear that up.

Choosing your cell phone provider is not so simple as just picking a popular company like Verizon, AT&T or Sprint, but you want to find the best type of provider for you.  That means actually looking a bit deeper into the issue, like what types of cell phone towers are in the area in which you live.  You’re going to find that this denotes how good the coverage zones in your city from that provider will be, which will directly affect your actual reception.  That’s why it’s worth looking into to see what types of towers are near you, and what providers actually own them.

But what you also want to be aware of are the certain cell phone towers dangers that can be debunked as falsehoods, as there’s a lot of information flying around about the radiation and other types of possibly harmful aspects of a cell phone signal.  But you’ll find that not all of these are totally based in fact, so it’s important to realize that they are not so dangerous as you may think.  But first things first, finding out about the coverage in your area:

1) Identifying a cell phone tower.

Obviously, if you want to determine what types of coverage are in you area, you have to be able to spot the towers themselves, and that means being able to recognize them.  There are a few ways that you can do this, and here are the key factors that you want to look for:

-Firstly, make sure there’s a large rectangular concrete base.

Cell phone towers have to be grounded appropriately, and that means that they have to be infused into a concrete slab in order for them to be safely installed.

-There should be a small shelter located under the tower itself.

Cell phone towers always need to have a small shelter where a person can stay to service and inspect the surroundings. That means a small shed type of structure, which is always a tell tale sign.

-Look for microwave dishes as well as a TMA

Two things that all towers need are microwave dishes as well as TMA or tower mounted amplifiers, so that the signal can be broadcast throughout the surrounding area.  That means every single tower is going to have several of these, so they should actually be pretty easy for you to see.

-Finally, spot the lighting arrester.

As a last line of defense against lightning, which would otherwise always be a major risk for any tower, there should be a tall thin rod sticking out the top of the tower.  This is to attract lightning, so that it will not damage the tower should it strike the surrounding area.

2) Finding out which coverage providers cover the towers in your area.

From here, you need to be able to tell whether or not you’re dealing with Verizon cell phone towers, or AT&T or even Sprint, T Mobile, or any one of the other providers around the country.  In order to do this you want to write down the address of the tower, or at least where it is generally located on a stretch of highway.  Then you can visit a website like AntennaSearch.com where you can actually look up, via address to see to whom that tower belongs.

This way you can determine who actually owns the towers closest to you, which gives you a good idea of who is going to be able to give you the best possible reception.  The closer that you live in the proximity of these towers, the better cell phone coverage that you’re going to have as a result.

3) But, is cell phone towers cancer a realistic risk?

The fact of the matter is that this has been investigated countless numbers of times, and they have always found that there is no logical link to suggest that they actually cause cancer.  One recent survey conducted by the British Medical Journal, which is one of the most trusted research resources the world over, actually found that there is no link between higher cancer rates and proximity to cell phone towers.  That means there’s no danger, and in actuality they are not going to affect you worse than a television set, or microwave inside your home.
